Learning things in the classroom while imagining things that do not exist in front of us is quite different with when we experience it directly. This was the reason behind the study tour to Turkey organized by MA (Islamic Senior High School) Al-Irtiqo’. Turkey is chosen since it has been one of the best tourist destinations for travelers. Other than its attractive natural beauty, Turkey also has lots of historic sites where stories of a civilization lies within. The buildings and atmosphere portray the unique combination between European and Asian style. Many of those buildings hold the histories of Islamic civilization back then.

The study tour is a program initiated by MA Al-Irtiqo’ Malang-Indonesia in collaboration with Madrasah Sinan Pasa Hizmet Vakfi Istanbul-Turkey. By this collaboration, MA Al Irtiqo’ sends the best students to study as well as having a tour in Istanbul-Turkey once every year. The first ever departure was on July 4-14, 2018.

This year’s departure involved 7 people representing MA Al-Irtiqo’: Alamsyah (principal of MA Al Irtiqo’), Galuh Alamsyah (Chair of Ariosan Foundation Malang), Luluk Nafidah (a chef in Ariosan Foundation restaurant), M. Safwan Saad (an Ustadz in an Islamic boarding school in Maros, South Sulawesi), and three best students of MA Al-Irtiqo’ namely Aulia Aninda Rahmalita, Miftahul Rizqi and Adhilla Nanda Fitrah Ilham.

The team set off from Abdurrahman Saleh Airport Malang, heading to Soekarno-Hatta Airport Jakarta, then had a transit in Jeddah, and finally to Attaturk Airport Istanbul-Turkey. It was a 3-hour flight. Arriving in Istanbul, the team headed immediately to a residence provided by Madrasah Sinan Pasa Hizmet Vakfi. After a bit rest and unpacking, it was time for an opening session and lunch. Then, the team were escorted to Madrasah Sinan Pasa Hizmet Vakfi. During the time spent there, the team’s daily activities are studying the books or kitab of Said Nursi every morning in the hall of Sinan Pasa Madrasah Hizmet Vakfi, then after the study, they were escorted to several religious tourism sites in Istanbul like Abu Ayyub Al Anshari mosque, the Sulaimania mosque, the Sultan Ahmed Blue mosque, Al-Fatih mosque, Panorama 1453 (The Museum of Conquest), Hagia Shopia, the Top Kapi museum, and some other tourist attractions.

This team did not only enjoy the trip, but also learned a lot along the way. The study tour to Turkey has left nice impression, memorable reminiscence and useful experience for each member of the team.
