Medical Staff of Ear Nose Throat-Neck Surgery Al Islam Hospital Bandung, dr Ilman Fathony, invites the public to maintain health during the Covid-19 pandemic, one of them by means of istinsyaq. Istinsyaq is one of the Sunnahs of the Prophet (pbuh) in wudu’, namely putting water into the nasal cavity.
He said that the sunnah is often abandoned or even underestimated because it is considered not very important. In fact, there are many benefits of this istinsyaq.
“As we know, the nose is one of the respiratory tracts that is often exposed to viruses, germs, and bacteria. Especially during the Covid-19 pandemic conditions such as now, the nose is also susceptible to upper respiratory tract infections, influenza, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, even Covid-19 infections and various other respiratory diseases,” he said through a statement
He said, Allah SWT has created nose hairs as a tool to filter dirt and dust that enters the nasal cavity. In addition, the community still has to maintain its cleanliness.
“The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) exemplified istinsyaq in his daily life,” he said. In fact, dr. Ilman explained one of the hadiths of the Prophet SAW, namely whoever wudoo’, should be istinsyaq.
“By istinsyaq means we have cleaned the nasal cavity starting from the front nasal cavity, nasal bulkhead to the nasopharynx or the back of the nose where the Covid-19 virus often attaches,” he said.
He said, if during the day overnight we pray 5 times and every wudu we do istinsyaq followed by istinsyaq (as many as 3 times), have cleaned the nasal cavity as many as 15 times within 24 hours.
“That way, God willing, it is expected that all dirt, dust, viruses, and bacteria will disappear so that we avoid various respiratory diseases during this pandemic,” he said.
