In life, we might see other people’s life so enjoyable, fascinating, so successful, so different with our own lives. Their lives are filled with laughter, while ours are dumped in the sea of sorrows and hardships. In this time of life, there is nothing we can do but asking for help to Allah, for Him to strengthen our faith, to stay grateful on what we have, rather than cursing our lives every time we look at others’ lavish lives. Furthermore, there is a different definition of success in Islam.
The Messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him) said,
“He is successful who has embraced Islam, who has been provided with sufficient for his wants and been made contented by Allah with what He has given him.” (Muslim 1054)
From this, we can conclude that success is not about having luxurious houses, savoring expensive dinner each evening, having a set of collections of new-released Lamborghini, Ferrari, or any other worldly things. They do not guarantee out happiness anyway. But have you ever seen people who are not having all above, living a simple life, but they lived and died peacefully?
Therefore, it is important to keep this hadith in mind that success is simply about: having Islam in our hearts; having our needs fulfilled with whatever He has given us; and possessing a grateful heart and soul.
May Allah guide and guard us all, in syaa Allah.
Allah a’lam bi as-shawab.
